As hnairji keeps saying: how is any of this related to Bharat? OT no?
That's a very good & valid point. All we can say regarding the US is the following:

In the US, any wealthy person who makes political statements and does not make political contributions to the established primary political parties will face scrutiny in the form judicial and legal harassment. The top 10 real estate developers in NYC, aside from Trump, make millions in payments through political action committees to the dominant political party in the state, although individually they may support the opposing party candidates. Based on "law & order" Trump should have been in jail 12-15 years ago, but at that time he made political contributions, since 2015 he stopped. This was inevitable and he should have divested his corporations in NY state at that time.

Well at least we agree, he is a criminal. What we are arguing is should he be above the law?

There is a saying, if you do the crime, you do the time. Sometimes people get away with fraud. In this case, he got audited and there is a discrepancy of billions of dollars. I think this was just the civil case - hence the fine. I am sure his friends in high places like Rocket Man, Musk, Putin will loan him cash for it or his base will buy golden shoes and donate generously....

Most cases in US also have Juries of your peers. So when they find you guilty like in the RAPE case of Jean Carroll, there is something there. It's not just the judge and the Attorney General.

According to the failing NYTIMES - (I agree it's failing and has dismal reporting!) IRS is auditing him post 2009. I think Statute of Limitations prohibits earlier tax records. So this AG JAMES case may refer things to IRS for further criminal charges. Didnt Al Capone also have Tax issues leading to jail?

I think the state of NY will take offense at your characterization of things work there :), but then that seems like a personal opinion.
