I think GoI should have given a time limit on getting their products tested for BNCAP ratings to Auto OEMs. Except Tata's 3 products (Safari, Punch EV & Nexon EV), I don't see BNCAP issuing crash ratings to any other manufacturer's or products...surprised to see absence from Mahindra & VAG/Skoda.
Lets not even talk about the usual best seller suspects...Maruti, Kia & Hyundai. Sure most of their newer products offer 6 air bags as standard with claims of using higher percentage of very high tensile steel but the proof of pudding will be in visible via crash ratings.
GoI should make a rule that within 6 months of launching a particular product, it should have an official BNCAP rating. I'd like to believe that BNCAP are busy testing many products & ratings may take time but I am not feeling particularly optimistic. I do believe that there is a greater awareness of safety among consumers now and are actively asking sales rep about those features.
